On our second day of our Paris weekend, we woke up to hear the rain hitting itself off the windows, we both looked at each other and were glad we had ordered a big breakfast in bed, or is that room? Anyways it arrived and it was absolutely delicious that I just had to take an Instagram worthy shot, after all I was taking over the Grand Hotel du Palais Royal’s Instagram for the day.
We decided on a museum day and after a brief walk through the Palais Royal gardens and discovering the Louvre was going to be a long wait in the rain, we opted for the Musee D’Orsay, which I am so glad we did as it was an amazing building to see the inside of.
It used to be a former railway station and you can see this from the roof and the giant clocks inside. The art inside you will discover; sculptures aplenty, many a painting and my favourite was definitely the Impressionist floor, full of Monet, Manet and Pissarro. I learnt about these when I was at school all that time ago, so was amazing to see them in real life. There is also Van Gogh and the famous self-portrait of himself.
We took a break at the restaurant which has the most beautiful setting, the chairs are funky coloured glass and the ceiling is a beautifully painted with chandeliers. We both had tea and cake and continued exploring. Museums are definitely a great way to spend a rainy day in Paris.
There is one clock you must see however, looking out onto the River Seine.
Afterwards we walked past the Louvre and Tuilerie Gardens, the rain had stopped so we had a look round the shops along the rue saint honore, which was just opposite the Grand Hotel du Palais Royal. I someone ended up in Christian Louboutin and made a very naughty purchase, plus also managed to blend into the shop in my red and black outfit.
That evening we had dinner in the hotel which was lovely, I highly recommend the lemon meringue pie for dessert, it is a little bite of heaven. Then we went onto Bespoke bar, a bar I found online that served up some interesting cocktails and felt like a local hangout. It was open till 2am and so we sat and drank till close.
The next day we unfortunately headed home. It was a fleeting visit to Paris but totally worth it and I can’t wait to visit again.
